Mrs. Karlynn Formhals is in her second year at Norton City Schools, and her first year as assistant band director. She also teaches 4th and 5th grade general music at the Middle School. Mrs. Formhals is a graduate of The University of Akron, where she earned her Bachelor's Degree in Music Education.
During her time at the University of Akron, she studied flute with Dr. Lindsay Leach-Sparks and Jenny Robinson. Mrs. Formhals was a member of many student organizations, including the Northeastern Ohio Flute Association (NEOFA), Kappa Kappa Psi (Zeta Omicron chapter), and the Ohio Collegiate Music Education Association (OCMEA). She has also performed with several music ensembles on campus, playing flute, trombone, alto saxophone, and singing with the concert choir.
Previously, Mrs. Formhals taught elementary music in the Midview Local School district in Grafton, OH. Prior to that, she was a long-term substitute teacher in Brunswick City Schools with their middle school band program and student taught at Westlake City Schools with Mrs. Hilary Patriok and Ms. Kelly Zunic. Additionally, Mrs. Formhals taught private lessons on woodwind instruments, violin, and piano at Firefly Music Studio in Akron and has taught at several band camps during the summers.
Outside of teaching, Karlynn enjoys spending time with her friends, family, and cats. Some of her hobbies include gaming, reading, and attending concerts. She also still actively performs in the Akron area with the Supertonics Flute Choir and the Medina Community Band.
